Hybrid Front-End Repair: Active Shutters, EV Coolant System & More on a Fusion SE Hybrid
Most mechanical shops will look at a front-end hit on a hybrid and send it down the road. Not us. At Leon's PROFIX Auto Repair in Norman, we are ready to take this one on.

A 2014 Ford Fusion SE Hybrid came in with clear front-end damage. No paint work needed — the outer panels were fine — but the mechanical package behind the bumper was a different story. Once we pulled the front end apart we saw exactly what these cars tend to break in a moderate hit:
- Cracked and bowed front engine shield
- Broken and bent lower core support
- Entire active air shutter assembly damaged
- EV coolant cooler and transmission cooler compromised
- Radiator damaged
- Condenser bowed from the impact
- Broken plug on the EV coolant pump
- Fan shroud broken
This is the kind of job a pure mechanical shop often turns away because it sits in that gray area between “collision” and “mechanical.”
Fortunately, we have the experience to take a front end apart correctly and put the mechanical systems back together the right way, especially on hybrids. That’s why we kept it in-house.
What makes the hybrid side more involved?
The
active grille shutters
are a big plastic assembly that sits right in the impact zone. They’re expensive, fragile, and control airflow for both engine and hybrid system efficiency. The EV coolant circuit (cooler, electric pump, and related lines) also lives in the same area. When those get damaged you can’t just install a radiator in and call it done —
a hybrid cooling system has to be restored properly
or you risk overheating issues later.

We replaced the full set of damaged components: front engine shield, lower core support, active shutter assembly, EV coolant/transmission cooler, radiator, A/C condenser, electric coolant pump, and fan shroud, along with the necessary clips, coolant, dye, and refrigerant.

After the mechanical work we performed a full coolant system air purge and an A/C service and performance test so the vehicle left with both the engine and hybrid cooling systems, plus the air conditioning, fully restored.
Jobs like this are a natural fit for us at Leon's PROFIX Auto Repair. While we’re no longer a body shop, but we are still well prepared to handle the mechanical side of front-end damage — especially the hybrid-specific pieces that make a lot of other shops nervous. If it’s structural or cosmetic paint work, we’ll point you in the right direction. If it’s the mechanical systems behind the bumper on a hybrid or EV, we can take it on and do it correctly.
That’s the lane we've built at Leon’s PROFIX Auto Repair and PROFIX Auto Repair.
Whether it’s hybrid and EV systems, everyday maintenance, or major work like engine and transmission replacements, our team has the knowledge and hands-on experience to get it done right the first time.
If it comes into the shop,
we can handle it.
