Video: Wheel Almost Fell Off – Bad Front Wheel Bearing Failure at PROFIX Auto Repair in Norman, OK
Customer Came In With a Scary Brake Pedal Issue – What We Found Was Serious

This customer was driving back home to Houston when his truck broke down off the interstate near Norman. The brake pedal was going nearly all the way to the floor, and he could feel something seriously wrong with the front end.
He called us, explained the situation, and asked if we could work directly with his fleet manager. We said yes immediately. His truck was towed in, we diagnosed the issue quickly, ordered parts, and had him safely back on the highway by 4:00 PM.
Not every shop is willing to drop everything for an out-of-towner or fleet driver on the same day — but at
PROFIX Auto Repair, we do our best to make it happen whenever possible. We do a lot of work for travelers, truck drivers, and out-of-state customers passing through the Norman/OKC area.
Watch the short video of what we found when we got the truck in:
What the Diagnosis Revealed
Our technician confirmed that the front right wheel bearing had completely failed. The failed bearing had worn grooves into the rotor, and all 8 lug nuts on that side were swollen — a dangerous combination that meant the wheel had dangerous play.
We recommended replacing
both front wheel hub and bearing assemblies to avoid leaving the customer with only a temporary fix. The customer and fleet manager agreed, and we completed the full job the same day.
Why We Replace Both Sides
When one wheel bearing fails this badly, the other side is usually not far behind. Replacing both fronts at the same time:
- Restores safe, firm braking
- Prevents uneven tire and rotor wear
- Saves the customer from another breakdown down the road
Common Symptoms of Failing Wheel Bearings
If you notice any of these, don’t wait until you’re stranded:
- Grinding, humming, or roaring noise that gets louder with speed
- Steering wheel vibration or shaking
- Soft or spongy brake pedal (caused by rotor wobble)
- ABS light illuminated
- Swollen or hard-to-remove lug nuts
What Causes Wheel Bearings to Fail?
Oklahoma roads, heat, heavy loads, and long highway miles all take a toll. This Houston driver’s truck had clearly seen plenty of miles, and the bearing finally gave out at the worst possible time.
