2024 Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast Custom Steering Wheel Installation at Leon's PROFIX

Philip Defatta • October 8, 2026

A 2024 Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast came to PROFIX Auto Repair in Norman, Oklahoma for installation of a customer-supplied custom steering wheel along with mud flaps and rocker-molding work. Because the aftermarket steering wheel arrived as a bare shell, the factory airbag, electronics, wiring harness, controls, trim, and other components all had to be transferred from the original wheel before the new one could be installed.

A Cybertruck That Was Hard to Miss

Some vehicles blend into the parking lot. This one did not.

This customized 2024 Weyland-Yutani Corp. Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast already had a very distinctive exterior, but the most interesting part of this visit was happening inside the truck. The customer brought us an aftermarket steering wheel to install, and unlike a complete replacement assembly, the new wheel arrived essentially bare.

That meant this would be much more involved than simply removing one steering wheel and bolting another one in its place.

Before any of that work could begin, however, the Cybertruck first had to be properly powered down for the job.

Safely Isolating the Cybertruck Before Steering Wheel Work

Working around steering-wheel electronics and Supplemental Restraint System components means taking the proper electrical precautions before disassembly begins.

On this Cybertruck, that included isolating the high-voltage system using the orange fireman's loop, followed by disconnecting the vehicle's low-voltage battery.

With the vehicle safely prepared for the work, the original steering wheel could come out.

A Bare Custom Steering Wheel Meant Transferring Everything

The customer-supplied steering wheel did not come as a complete assembly.

The original Tesla steering wheel contained everything that still needed to make the replacement wheel function as part of the Cybertruck: the factory airbag, electronics, wiring harness, controls, trim, and the rest of the internal components.

All of those pieces had to be carefully removed from the original wheel and transferred into the new one.

Removing steering wheel from Tesla Cybertruck

This is where a job that may sound simple from the outside becomes considerably more detailed.

Instead of replacing a complete steering-wheel assembly, the factory wheel had to be opened up and its individual components retained for reuse.

Fortunately, the aftermarket wheel was designed well for the transfer. The Tesla components fit the new wheel cleanly, allowing the original electronics and controls to be retained rather than substituted with unrelated aftermarket pieces.

Electronics transferred to Cybertruck steering wheel

The factory airbag was also transferred into the replacement wheel along with the electronics, wiring harness, trim, and controls.

Once everything was assembled into the new wheel, it could be installed back into the Cybertruck.

Reassembly and Final System Check

A steering wheel installation isn't finished just because the wheel is physically attached.

After reassembly, the transferred components needed to communicate correctly with the Cybertruck's existing systems. The new steering wheel retained full functionality, the electronics and controls operated properly, and the transferred factory SRS components integrated normally with the vehicle during our post-installation checks.

The Visit Also Included Mud Flaps and Rocker Molding Work

The steering wheel was the most involved part of the visit, but it wasn't the only work performed on this Cybertruck.

The visit also included installation of the customer-supplied mud flaps along with replacement of the left and right rocker moldings.

Custom Parts Can Still Require Factory Components and Procedures

Aftermarket parts sometimes look straightforward sitting in the box. What actually goes into installing them can be a different story.

On this Cybertruck, the replacement steering wheel was essentially the foundation of the finished assembly. The factory electronics, controls, wiring, trim, and airbag still had to be carefully removed, transferred, reassembled, and checked afterward.

Just as importantly, working around those systems began with properly isolating the vehicle's electrical systems rather than simply starting with the steering-wheel bolts.
